What is a Recital?
A large part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. The experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result. The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication and progress.

Personalized Information Sheet
Each dancer will be provided with a personalized information sheet that will include all applicable recital details, including their picture day time, recital rehearsal times,  and specific costume details. We will be relying on the dancer and their families to keep track of this document and use it as their recital guide.

Mandatory Attendance
In order to participate in the recital, students are required to attend the recital rehearsal. Rehearsal will be held the morning of the recital- the schedule is always provided to families during the spring semester. There will be no exceptions as rehearsal is necessary for each class to be fully prepared for the recital event.

Costume Policy and Costume Handling
Costumes will be distributed only when paid for in full. You will receive an individual email with your outstanding balance. To participate in picture day (TBA), the costume must be fully paid for.

To ensure that there are no costume problems, students should not wear their costumes, accessories, or tights prior to picture day and not again until recital.

We recommend that each student’s name be placed on his or her costumes, shoes, accessories and tights. Place the costumes in a garment bag with your child’s name on the outside. Pack accessories in a clear plastic bag with your child’s name on the bag and on each item. Hats should be stored in a hatbox or similar container to prevent damage. Please do not attempt to wash costumes in your washing machine- again they should not be worn prior to picture day and not again until recital.

Hair and Makeup
All students are required to wear stage makeup for the recital. The reason for this is that stage lights are bright and wash out our dancers faces. Please follow this tutorial for makeup instructions: https://www.wikihow.com/Apply-Stage-Makeup. Glitter on the body or in the hair is accepted.

All hair must be pulled away from the face into a clean, ponytail or ballet bun (this will be explicitly stated by your instructor). If your hair is too short to create this style, please brush it away from the face and secure it into a half-up style.

Miscellaneous
We request that no jewelry be worn during the recital with the exception of small stud earrings.

Everyone entering the recital must have a ticket. All dancers get in free of charge and are not required to purchase a ticket.

Most importantly- we want our dancers to have fun and thoroughly enjoy their time! This is their night to shine and to show off their skills to family and friends. The NRV Academy of Dance Executive Committee wishes everyone the best of luck and are very much looking forward to the big day!
